Off the Road - Into the Wildscapes [Stage 4]
This is one of our more isolated and challenging journeys through the Portugal Wildscapes. Here you will cycle on a territory of transition between the regions of Alentejo and Algarve.
In the small villages along the way, you will be able to get water, food and perhaps to taste the local liqueur of Arbutus (medronho), a red fruit growing in shrubs.
You will cross the river Vascão, a biodiversity hotspot, where you may get to see the ancient watermills.
As you near the eastern part of the journey you will ride close to the River Guadiana and finally arrive in Mértola with the castle greeting you. It’s time to rest and to explore the heritage.
