PR3 MDB - Fisgas de Ermelo
The route, PR3 - Fisgas de Ermelo, begins in the Ermelo village, close to the Parish Church. It continues on the main road and then down towards Catrinas, where it crosses the Fervença stream. Here, a long climb to Varzigueto begins, but that climb is really worth it due to the magnificent landscapes of the Alvão Natural Park and the amazing Fisgas de Ermelo Waterfalls. Before reaching Varzigueto, there is an acess to Piocas de Cima - small ponds of clear water, great for a refreshing plunge.
Leaving Varguizeto the route crosses the Olo river and continues on a path that leads to the Viewpoint of Fisgas. Here, the Fisgas de Ermelo Waterfalls are presented in a different, but also delightful, prespective. The route then goes towards Fojo, where the descent to the Olo river begins. In this section, tehe is an acess to Piocas de Baixo.
The Olo river is crossed in the Abelheira Bridge before the route climbs to Ermelo again. In this route, one will go through villages with a rural armosphere, marked by grazing marshes and shist/state constructions, typical of this mountain area.
It is possible to find Maronês cattle grazing often and, in higher areas, herds of wild goats are common presence. It is a route of great beauty but at the same time of great unevennes, wich makes this route a challenging one.
