PR3 CDR - Trail of the Oaks

Circular route (with longest variant) of moderate difficulty, about 7.5 km long (12.5 km with the addition of the variant 3.1) and interesting all year round.
It is a route which is rich in natural and cultural heritage, and great approach to the local community.
The Trail of Oaks is a short route with several aspects of landscape, cultural and environmental of high interest. It has an extension of 7.5 km, starting in the square of the chapel of N.ª Sr.ª do Refúgio, in Fojo.
Towards the village of Codeçal, we can see patches of well-preserved oaks of the species Quercus pyrenaica.
Crossing the village of Gosende, one continues to Cotelo, another typical mountain village where pastoralism is still a way of life. Of the cattle, the Arouquesa breed is the most abundant.
When approaching the Balsemão river, it is possible to find a large peatland area, which is a biodiversity hotspot.
In the village of Campo Benfeito you can visit Capuchinhas do Montemuro, a cooperative of weaving artisans which occupies the building of the old primary school, and the Regional Theater of Serra do Montemuro.
