Spanning 32.3 km, this route introduces visitors to the calm waters of the Zêzere, influenced by the Cabril and Castelo de Bode Dams, as they flow along the GR33 GRZ - Multistage Route of Zêzere toward Constância, where the route ends. At the start of the route, we are still enveloped by the meanders of the Zêzere, magnificent pronounced curves which extend for kilometres, forming one of the most famous landscapes classified by UNESCO. The landscape inspires well-being and tranquillity, and is worth enjoying. Snaking through schist mountain ranges covered in pine, with steep and profound inclines, it is undoubtedly the river that surprises onlookers with its unique course, making this one of the most beautiful Portuguese river valleys. Evidence of human presence such as the schist walls can be seen scattered along the banks, attesting to subsistence based on agriculture.

Author’s recommendation

Tips and hints

The whiteness of the houses attests to the historical importance of what was once a noble “villa”, former municipal seat, the sign of a statute inherited in bygone times. Today it is one of the white villages of the Aldeias do Xisto. An essential element for any Álvaro landscape, the river has also given rise to the river beach that receives numerous visitors in summer. The beach is suitable for doing several sports and engaging in recreational activities such as fishing, canoeing, boating and renting pedal boats. It is mandatory to go through the religious circuit of the village.
