Classification / Navigability of the river
Level 1
a) Calm waters with slight current, maximum velocity of 4 km/hour, without navigation difficulties.
b) Water currents with velocities ranging from 4 km/hour to 10 km/hour and without any obstacles.
c) When the current is more than 10 km/hour, there may be some difficulties which require the attention of canoeists. The use of lifejackets is advised.
Level 2
Some difficulties, with currents, small dams and easy rapids. The use of lifejackets and protective helmets is advised.
Level 3
Difficult navigation Strong currents and fast rapids that require mastery of the vessel. The use of an appropriate vessel is advised. The use of lifejackets and protective helmets is mandatory.

Tips and hints
The accessible river beach, the rural campsite, the picnic park, the sports complex, the blacksmith trunk, the parish house, the quartzite crests in the Naturtejo Geo-Park (UNESCO), and the twists and turns of the Zêzere are prominent natural and tourist attractions that you simply must visit in the Aldeia do Xisto of Janeiro de Baixo. Under the influence of Serra do Muradal lies the magnificent Zêzere bottleneck, one of the geo-monuments in the Naturtagus Geopark and classified by UNESCO. It is a geological cut, at a location also known as Malhada Velha, fundamental as a testimony to the geological history of the land over the last 600 million years. The part the includes the left bank is Cabeço Mosqueiro, with a viewpoint at the top (360 m). A former nesting place for eagles (Buteo buteo), it has been transformed into a pleasant picnic park. In addition to the trace fossils to be found there, you can contemplate the Zêzere as it runs through this deep, winding valley. With luck, you will still be able to find the dwarf germander (Teucrium chamaedrys). Although the highlight goes to the river, your gaze will wander over a myriad of mountains: the mountain ranges of Serra da Estrela and Gardunha, with a privileged perspective of the magnificent glacial Valley of Alforfa with its rugged granite, the quartz mountains of Serra do Muradal quartzite and Penedos de Góis and the schist mountains in Açor, Lousã and Cabeço Rainha.Start

As passagens que se indicam a seguir são para o rio num caudal médio. À saída de Janeiro de Baixo aconselhamos a paragem e verificação do troço seguinte do rio, que se designa habitualmente por “Gargantinha do Zêzere”: com caudal razoável, o troço de rio até à povoação de Admoço é geralmente bastante difícil, não devendo, por isso, ser realizado por canoístas inexperientes. Atenção a algumas árvores na margem cujos troncos entram pelo rio. No inverno mantêm-se os rápidos ao longo deste troço. Há várias ilhotas e açudes que garantem a diversão dos saltos e das ondas estáticas.
C11. Cerca de 250 m depois encontra-se o açude de Janeiro de Baixo com passagem junto á margem direita indo-se de seguida para a esquerda, aconselhamos a paragem e verificação do troço seguinte do rio que se designa habitualmente por “Gargantinha do Zêzere”. A passagem por “terra” é igualmente na margem direita.
C12. Cerca de 300 m depois afunilamento do rio para a margem direita, cuidado com as árvores na margem. Passagem a pé pela mesma margem. Grau 2.
C13. Cerca de 400 m depois novo afunilamento para a margem direita. Rápido com cerca de 200 m e pequenas ondas a ser realizado pela margem direita, cuidado com as árvores na margem. Passagem por “terra” na margem esquerda. Grau 2+.
C14. Cerca de 150 m depois “Rápido da Gargantinha”, após a foz da Ribeira de Bogas e que em condições de água como atrás se referiu pode ter passagens muito complicadas e que tem cerca de 450 m de comprimento. Passagem por “terra” por vezes difícil, mas, na margem esquerda. Grau 3+ a 4+.
C15. Cerca de 100 m depois nova “ilhota” com passagem na margem direita. Passagem por “terra” na mesma margem. Grau 3.
C16. Cerca de 50 m depois novo rápido com nível de dificuldade um pouco maior com passagem pelo meio/direita. Passagem por “terra” difícil e na margem esquerda. Grau 3+.
C17. Cerca de 80 m depois nova “ilhota” com passagem junto à margem direita. Passagem por “terra” na margem direita. Grau 2.
C18. Cerca de 500mts depois novo rápido com passagem pelo centro/esquerda. Passagem por “terra” na margem direita e com algum grau de dificuldade.
C19. Cerca de 90 m depois nova sucessão de “ilhas e ilhotas” com passagem sempre pelo lado da margem esquerda numa curva com cerca de 600 mts, cuidado com as árvores na margem. Passagem por “terra” pela margem direita muito fácil. Grau 2.
C20. Cerca de 720 m depois nova sucessão semelhante á anterior, com cerca de 600 m, com passagem pela margem direita na parte inicial e depois sensivelmente a meio, passagem pela margem esquerda. Passagem por “terra” na margem esquerda. Grau 2.
C21. Cerca de 500 m depois sucessão de pequenos rápidos com cerca de 500 mts em curva, com passagem sempre bem demarcada pelo fluxo da água e quase sempre pelo meio. Passagem por “terra” na margem esquerda ou direita. Grau 2 e 1+.
C22. Cerca de 100 m depois nova “ilhota” com passagem na margem direita. Passagem por “terra” na margem esquerda. Grau 1+.
C23. Cerca de 140 m depois pequeno rápido com passagem a meio/direita. Passagem por terra na margem esquerda. Grau 1+.
C24. Cerca de 120 m açude partido com passagem pelo centro/direita onde se observa bem o fluxo de água. Passagem por “terra” em ambas as margens. Grau 2-.
C25. Cerca de 200 m passagem por debaixo da ponte Cambas/Orvalho. Saída na margem direita a 400 m.
