The Miradouro de Ourique is a privileged place to contemplate the village and the surrounding landscape, in an atmosphere of serenity and relaxation, you can also see the statue of D. Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal. 
The viewpoint is built on the site where the Castle of Ourique once stood , belonging to the Order of St. James, which dominated the vast plains of Campo de Ourique. The castle was rebuilt in the century. XII/XIV by order of D. Dinis, possibly on an ancient Romanized fort that later was occupied by the Arabs. Today there are no traces of the fortification left.
