Pillory of Coruche
Historical Site · Alentejo · 25 m
A quintessential symbol of municipal authority and municipal power, the primitive 16th century pillory was located on the square opposite the building of the Paços do Concelho.
Dismantled around the thirties of the twentieth century, the column was reused in a construction of the time, while the capital remains, even today, kept in a private house. And it was precisely from these two fragments that the current pillory of Coruche was reconstituted. The replica was placed in 1941 in the square, next to the City Hall.
