In Esperança, village of Arronches municipality, there are some of the most remarkable sets of rock paintings in Portugal.
There are painting shelters in Serra dos Louções and on the south slope of Serra da Cabaça, east of Esperança and about 400 meters from the road that connects this village to Monte Novo and Nave Fria. This caves have an archaeological heritage with a inestimable value, recognized by specialists. The paintings are generally monochromatic, with reddish tones, schematic trace, with about 3.000 years, that reproduce anthropomorphic and zoomorphic silhouettes, tracings of human hands among other signs.
