Walking Tour in Rota Vicentina
Rota Vicentina and it ́s Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park wraps around the Algarve’s coastline along the Atlantic Ocean and into the Alentejo. The coast, characterized by rugged rocks, sea stacks, sand stratified cliff faces caused by centuries of erosion, is perfect for long walks.
The Rota Vicentina is a network of walking trails in Sw Portugal, totaling 400 km to walk, along with the most beautiful and best-preserved coastline of Southern Europe. Come and meet with the A2Z the fishermen’s trail of the Rota Vicentina.
Day 1 - Arrival to Lisbon
This day will take you to some Highlights of the picturesque city of Lisboa. Early morning you will have time visit to downtown Lisbon.
Visit some of the most important monuments, such as the Jerónimos Monastery, the Belém Tower and the famous “pastéis de belém”.
You will take the train from Lisbon to the station of Funcheira, where a transfer will pick you up from station of Funcheira to Porto Covo.
Overnight in Porto Covo.
Day 2 - Walking Route 1: Porto Covo | Vila Nova de Milfontes (20km / 12 mi)
Your journey starts in a beach section, where you will walk along the vast sand dunes area of Ilha do Pessegueiro, Aivados and Malhão beaches.
Overnight in Vila Nova de Mil Fontes.
Day 3 - Walking Route 2: Vila Nova de Milfontes | Almograve (15 km / 9 mi)
This is a day to purify your soul thanks to the overwhelming views over Vila Nova de Milfontes and the Mira river that meets the ocean here. It is a short and accessible hiking day so that you may enjoy the area to its fullest extent. Crossing the bridge over the river in Vila Nova de Milfontes provides stunning views of the river’s mouth.
There are stretches along this part of the coast where native vegetation displays all its diversity and other areas where it has been destroyed and wiped out by a most aggressive exotic plant – the Acacia.
Overnight in Almograve.
Day 4 - Walking Route 3: Almograve | Zambujeira do Mar (22km / 13 mi)
The high cliffs you will see during this part of the journey, despite being exposed to the constant salty ocean winds, are the nesting site for over twenty species of bird! These include Jackdaw, Shag, Common Kestrel, “pure” Rock Dove, White Stork, Peregrine Falcon and Black Redstart.
If you look carefully along this coastal stretch it is easy to see past climate change written in the rocks.

Day 5 - Free day at Zambujeira do Mar
Time to rest and enjoy the beautiful beaches of Zambujeira do Mar
Day 06 - Walking Route 4: Zambujeira do Mar | Odeceixe (18km / 11 mi)
You will be passing the beaches of Alteirinhos, Carvalhal, Machados, and Amália on the way to Azenha do Mar, where you will find a natural fishing harbor.
Overnight in Odeceixe.
Day 07 - Walking Route 5: Option 1 - Odeceixe Beach Circuit (10 km / 6 mi) or Option 2 - Free Day To Go To The Beach Of Odeceixe
Option 1
Today you will be walking along almost 4 km on the Historical Way, then you will enter in the Odeceixe Beach Circuit.
The day will end in at the beautiful and stunning beach of Odeceixe.
Optional: A transfer will take back again to the lodging in Odeceixe (about 4,5km) or you can also keep going walking 4 more km to the village of Odeceixe.
Overnight in Odeceixe.
Option 2
Just spend a nice day at the beautiful beach on Odeceixe.
Optional: a transfer can take you to the beach and take you back if you book previously.
Day 08 - Departure
Optional transfer to the station of Santa Clara-Sabóia, so you can get a train to Lisbon or the Algarve.
